Always More to See

The only way to get what you really want is to know what you really want...

I came across this saying this week and it got me thinking... how many people really, really know what they want in life?  It can be so easy to jump into things based on what others are doing, before knowing your own true purpose behind it.  Especially with social media these days.  It is easy to live with FOMO (fear of missing out) when everyone posts all their awesomeness.  Then again, some may argue that seeing other peoples ideas and accomplishments actually inspires them to do things they other wise wouldn't have dreamed of.  And for some, following the foot steps of those they admire, in time, might help them figure out what they really want in life.

For me personally, what I get out of this saying is how I am motivated to do a better job of narrowing down what I really want within a particular experience.  I have not always done a great job of this in the past. Granted, not all experiences need to be defined.  Some of the best things in life come as a surprise and by not taking things in life TOO seriously.  Mind you, this then, comes down to prioritizing things.  Anyhow, what I am talking about is being more honest with myself when it comes to my expectations so I can feel like I really did my best.

When I met my husband he shared with me how important it was for him to look back on his life and see it filled with things that held importance and value to him.  His priorities were clear.  Family, travel, being in the mountains, riding his bike(s), skiing and drinking coffee (good coffee), just to name a few ;)

To this day he still knows what he "really wants".  He has been a great inspiration to me and over the past 9 years he has inspired me to be more like him.  He helped me realized that the end result was far less important that the journey and experiences along the way.  It has motivated me to live with more freedom and in turn, my decisions and choices have lead me to some of my biggest accomplishment and greatest memories.  And I am not just referring athletically.  I am talking about balancing my passion for the outdoors/mountains with time for my family, friends and travel.

It just reiterates, knowing what we 'really want' before choosing our 'moments' will help us look back on our lives and see it filled with things that are most important and memorable.

And there is always more to see...
